The Rowan EDC has released its 2023 Annual Report, looking back at a year that saw significant growth, and laid the foundation for the years to come.

The eight-page document recaps a year in which the Rowan EDC assisted in creating 342 new jobs and $197.6 million in capital investment.

The report highlighted Rowan County’s affordability competitiveness with its housing costs being 77% of the national average and cost of living being 90.5% of the national average.

The report also emphasized the focus on product development in 2023 which lead to a speculative building boom. Currently there are 19.5 million square feet of speculative buildings in development along the Interstate 85 corridor which runs the length of Rowan County.

Scott Shelton, Vice President of the Rowan EDC, emphasized the impact of this initiative. “Our 2023 focus on speculative building development has significantly propelled Rowan County’s economic growth. The available building inventory, combined with our robust infrastructure including top-tier roads, robust utility infrastructure and available workforce, make Rowan an ideal location for businesses. The current and future supply positions the county well for sustained economic prosperity and business attraction for many years to come.”

An intriguing announcement in 2023 was that Rowan County made the finalist list for North Carolina’s Megasite Readiness Program. Out of the five counties in the state selected, Rowan County was the sole finalist from the western half of North Carolina.

Other significant project announcements in 2023 included General RV, Chick-fil-A Supply, and DHL Supply Chain.
