Professional Journey
Q1: How many years have you worked in the industry?
A: 35 years

Q2: What inspired you to pursue a career in manufacturing?
A: I started working in manufacturing at TRW when I was 18 years old. At 21, I moved into HR, working for a company that makes medical devices. Having worked on the manufacturing floor myself, I’ve always felt a strong connection and commitment to those in manufacturing roles.

Q3: How did you get your start in the industry?
A: In high school, I spent two years at Auburn Technical Center in Ohio, focusing on office administration. During that time, I even got the chance to work as a secretary for a County Commissioner who was running for office. After starting my first job in HR, back when it was still called Personnel, my company offered tuition reimbursement, so I went to college while working and earned my PHR (Professional in Human Resources) certification. To keep my PHR current, I need to earn 60 credits every three years, and I’ve been doing this since 1997. I was also lucky to have amazing mentors in HR who helped me learn and advance in my career.

Q4: Reflecting on your career start, what do you wish you had known then?
A: To go to college right away out of high school.

Q5: What advice would you offer to young women considering a career in manufacturing?
A: Get to know your new work environment and your new co-workers. Ask question and spend time with colleagues. Building solid relationships is so important for delivering results.

Opportunities and Roles
Q6: Can you describe the types of roles available for women within your organization?
A: Women can explore opportunities within the company including Research and Development, Quality, Customer Service, Supply Chain, Human Resource and Finance. Currently we have manufacturing jobs that might interest women, as well as a Senior Buyer position and a QC Analytical Chemist. I encourage women to apply for jobs at Innospec. They are a great company to work for!
