The Rowan EDC hosted its 5th Annual Meeting, celebrating a year of economic momentum, honoring key community leaders, and welcoming a special keynote address from John O’Leary, President and CEO of Daimler Truck North America.

During the event, Steve Fisher, President and CEO of F&M Bank, was recognized as the Rowan EDC’s Rock Star of the Year. Fisher has long been a champion of economic development in Rowan County, serving in numerous leadership roles, including as a two-time co-chair for the EDC’s Forward Rowan capital campaigns.

“Steve’s dedication to our community is unmatched,” said Tim Proper, Chief Lending Officer / Executive Vice President of F&M Bank and Rowan EDC Board Chair. “For decades, he has rolled up his sleeves to support initiatives that move Rowan County forward. His leadership, generosity, and genuine care for this region make him more than deserving of this recognition.”

Proper also presented a special award to Nicole Holmes Matangira in appreciation of her six years of service on the Rowan EDC Board of Directors, including her time as Board Chair in 2024. Her contributions and heartfelt guidance have played a vital role in the organization’s growth and outreach.

The afternoon culminated in a powerful keynote presentation by John O’Leary, President and CEO of Daimler Truck North America. Prior to his remarks, attendees viewed a dynamic video that captured the essence of the Daimler Truck mission: “We don’t build trucks, we move the world.” That message set the stage for an inspiring conversation about innovation, resilience, and the global impact of the Cleveland, NC-based manufacturing facility — Daimler’s largest in North America.

“I’m honored to have been included in the Rowan Economic Development Council’s annual meeting this year,” said O’Leary. “The Carolinas are such an integral part of Daimler Truck’s identity in North America, and we view the EDC as true partners in our mutual success. The event was a great opportunity to connect with so many local business partners and community leaders from Rowan County and we look forward to continuing our strong relationship.”

Rod Crider, President of Rowan EDC, added, “We were proud to host John and hear his vision. Daimler Truck is a cornerstone of our economy, and we remain committed to supporting their success — now and into the future. We’re thankful they’ve made Rowan County home to their largest facility in North America.”

The Rowan EDC’s Annual Meeting is a cornerstone event, bringing together business leaders, elected officials, and community stakeholders to celebrate successes and set the tone for the year ahead.
